The roots of Los Cabos run deep, and the Palmilla peninsula, near San Jose del Cabo, has always held a prominent position literally and figuratively. Palmilla's recent history dates back to the 1950s when it first captured the imagination of visionary developers. The Hotel Palmilla was commissioned by Abelardo Rodriguez, the son of Mexico's president at that time, and his American actress wife, Lucille Bremer, in 1954. They had previously built the 10,000-acre Rancho Las Cruces resort in 1948, along the Sea of Cortez outside La Paz, which still invites visitors today. When the Hotel Palmilla officially welcomed guests in 1956, reaching the property was possible only by boat or plane, adding exclusivity that attracted Mexican and American celebrities seeking a private escape from the public eye. Renowned personalities such as Lucille Ball and John Wayne were among the esteemed guests of that era. Over the years, the once 15-room hideaway with private air strip, restaurant, and chapel, has undergone remarkable expansion, now boasting nearly 200 rooms and easily accessible.

The Vision

More than a quarter of a century ago, two close friends and astute business partners, Ken Schnitzer and Ron Hatfield, embarked on a transformative journey. Their odyssey began amidst the pristine landscapes of Cabo San Lucas, where they ventured along the scenic Corridor to indulge in a round of golf at the legendary Palmilla Resort. Amidst the azure beauty of their surroundings, a spark of inspiration ignited within them, kindling their passion for Palmilla and the enchanting beachfront properties it offered.

With unwavering determination, Ken and Ron acquired a small parcel of this idyllic coastal terrain, enlisting the visionary builder and architect, Luis Cano, to bring their dreams to life. What initially began as a modest undertaking soon blossomed into a visionary reality. The construction of six luxurious villas was initiated, a daring venture that sought to test the waters of the high-end real estate market in Los Cabos.

These ambitious endeavors were underpinned by a harmonious fusion of American engineering prowess and the artistry of Mexican craftsmanship. Their success was as inevitable as it was remarkable, with each villa finding eager buyers even before their completion. However, it was not some grand scheme that guided the evolution of their vision; rather, it was the resounding success of their initial project.

Those times were both challenging and exhilarating for Ken and Ron. Undeterred by conventional limitations, they continued to acquire and develop land in places others deemed inhospitable. They recognized that crafting Villas Del Mar would necessitate monumental planning and ingenious engineering to overcome the formidable geological obstacles that lay before them.

Today, with more than 240 homes standing tall and future development plans firmly in place, what stands before us is nothing short of a landmark. It is a community nestled into the bosom of a mountainside, offering breathtaking ocean vistas that are unparalleled in their grandeur. The Palmilla Golf Club course was Latin America's first signature golf course and was designed by the man himself, Jack Nicklaus. This also marked the grandeur of Palmilla within Los Cabos. Today, Cabo is well known for its golfing assets for all skill levels, but Palmilla, Don Koll, and Jack Nicklaus started this tradition. This golf course is also getting a revamp with privatization, open to only 250 residents of Palmilla, and a new clubhouse building with event lawns, a restaurant, fitness center, swimming pool, locker rooms, and more facilities.
